THE FANNIN COUNTY AG IN THE CLASSROOM DAY
Fannin County Ag-in the Classroom was presented to nearly 400 students on Tuesday, August 19, 2009 at the Multi-Purpose Complex. AgriLife Extension Office and the Farm Bureau spear-headed the program and other Ag groups made presentations regarding agriculture. Demonstrations included soil erosion, wildlife, gardening, safety, equine management and dairy milking.
The NRCS and The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District presented a visual demonstration to the kids to pique interest in agriculture, the outdoors, and conservation. Randy Moore demonstrated soil erosion and methods to control erosion, with the help of Carol Brinlee, Mary Jane Godwin, District Secretary for the Fannin SWCD, John Hartwell, Technical Assistant for the Fannin SWCD and Judy Price our priceless volunteer.
Fannin SWCD and USDA-NRCS demonstrate how drops of water affect soil without any
ground cover.
The soil erosion process begins when raindrops, like bombs, hit the bare soil
and break loose soil particles.
Randy Moore and John Hartwell show the students how vegetation, terraces and
waterways prevent soil erosion.
