FANNIN SWCD CONSERVATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR

2007 – 2008

 Watersheds:

            (1)  Completed Mitigation Plan for Caney Site 3a.

            (2)  Completed Construction of Caney Site 3a.

            (3)  Secured a $56,000 grant for the removal of brush and restoration of existing 

                   dams.

            (4)  Secured a $9,000 grant for the O&M of 18 sites each year (mow & spray).

Wetland Wildlife Management:

            (1)  Received two new WRP wetland easements in Fannin County.

            (2)  Completed engineering practices on two WRP easements (Buster & Pintail).

Upland Wildlife Management:

            (1)  Completed two forage trials for improving wildlife habitat.

            (2)  Wildlife Seminar completed in spring.(>100 landowners)

            (3)  First in History of Fannin County Quail Count.

Fisheries Management:

            (1) Pond Management Seminar May, 2008. (100 landowners)

Forage & Livestock Management:

            (1) Range Seminar in March 2008. (>110 landowners)

            (2) Forage Tour, Fall 2007.  (>30 landowners)

            (3) Forage Booth at County Fair. (>1000 viewers)

EQIP Contracts:

            (1) Obligated over $220,000 in funds for Fannin County (2008)

Emergency Watershed Program:

            (1) Secured $1,070,000 for repair of Fannin County roads.

Conservation Educational Goals Accomplished:

(1) Over 1,500 people provided with  technical assistance.

(2) 24,000 acres of Conservation Plans written.

(3) 180 acres of wetlands enhanced.

(4) 30,000 acres with conservation applied to improve water quality, grazing land  

                  and wildlife.

            (5) Essay and Poster Contests with over 130 entries from Fannin County students.

            (6) Vegetable and Truck Farming Tour to the Noble Foundation (63)
