Fruit, Pecan and Shade Trees for Fannin County!
Can
you see it now? You walk out into your front or back yard and you see your
pecan trees loaded down with pecans and you can just smell the pecan pie
cooking! Your fruit trees have luscious fruit on them. Imagine sinking your
teeth into a freshly plucked peach. Also, how about walking out your door on a
crisp, cool clear fall morning and see the beautiful mix of autumn colors on
shade trees.
Well, that sight could be yours in a few years with a phone call now to the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District or the Bonham 4-H Club. We are working together and would like to announce the annual tree sale kick-off, with a bonus this year. There are of course our popular varieties of fruit and pecan trees as well as thornless blackberry.
The bonus? We have an opportunity to sell shade trees. These are 1-year-old gallon trees, 2 - 3 feet high started from seed. They are perfect for this area. The varieties we will have available are Lace Bark Elm, Cedar Elm, Shumard Red Oak, Live Oak and Burr Oak. There is a possibility we could have a few Bald or Pond Cypress. There are first and seconds in classification of new shade trees and we will have seconds. The only difference in a first and second is height. Seconds are shorter.
There will be sale forms available starting October 8th at the Soil and Water Conservation office and from Bonham 4-Hers and at the Soil and Water Conservation booth during the county fair. We have separate forms for the fruit and pecan trees and the shade trees. The shade tree sale will end on Monday, December 1, 2008. The fruit and pecan tree sale will end on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.
The Bonham 4-H Club will use their funds to support youth activities and community service. The Soil and Water Conservation Group also use their money to support youth activities.
Please call Mary Jane at the Soil and Water Conservation Office, 903-583-5612 or Linda Brinlee, with Bonham 4-H, 903-227-2732.
