THE FANNIN SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS OF THE ANNUAL POSTER CONTEST

The poster themes this year were “Water is Life” or “Today is the day to be part of Conservation’s Power”. The district received 72 poster entries from the schools of Dodd City, Honey Grove, Leonard and Trenton. We also had entries from home schooled students. The poster contest is open to all youth 12 years and younger. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three winners, $25 to first place, $15 to second place and $10 to third place. Each participant received a certificate of participation and will receive a tree seedling. The three winning posters are entered into the Area V awards and will compete with posters from 41 districts; the winners of this competition will be announced in April.

Hali Frohardt won first place in the poster contest and attends Trenton Middle School where she in the 6th grade. Her family moved to Trenton in 2006, she has a brother and sister and several pets. She has made many friends and likes living in Trenton. She stated, “The teachers in Trenton have changed how I feel about school. They have made it fun and I am thankful for all they have taught me”.

Below is Hali’s Winning Poster.

Makagan Mitchell placed second in the poster contest. She is a fifth grader at Dodd City Elementary. Makagan won second place in the essay contest in the 13 and younger category. She is active in Junior FFA and belongs to the National JR Braford Association and the Texas JR Livestock Association. She also shows her Boer goats.

The third place poster winner is Sarah Wilkinson from Leonard Intermediate School, she likes to read, write stories and likes sports and animals. Sarah is the daughter of Darren and Charla Wilkinson and she has one sister, Darian.

The employees of the Fannin SWCD, USDA-NRCS and the Farm Service Agency have the privilege of judging the posters each year. The district encourages all youth 12 and younger to participate in this contest. Information is sent out to all schools and to the County Extension Office each fall.
